How much does it cost to get a tutor?

NOTHING! GUTS is funded through the Associated Students of Madison by segregated fees, and all of our services are free to any UW-Madison student.

Who works at GUTS and what do they do?

The GUTS staff consists entirely of students who facilitate and administer GUTS services. GUTS tutors are student volunteers who tutor for our various programs. Check out the bios for the GUTS staff!

How can I get a job working at GUTS?

At the end of each semester, GUTS is usually looking for new staff members. Check the UW Job Center and the GUTS website for job announcements. The staff positions are the only paid positions at GUTS. All of our tutors are volunteers.

Does GUTS offer tutoring for writing?

UW-Madison has an excellent resource in the Writing Center, so GUTS does not supply assistance in writing. Please contact the Writing Center for individual appointments and workshops in writing:

Why do I need to come to the office to get a tutor?

We want tutees to show initiative in getting a tutor. The process of matching tutoring groups takes a lot of time and effort for our staff members. Coming to the office helps us make sure you are willing to make the two hour weekly commitment and are signing up for the correct program.
